Meet Luke Antcil

When Luke Anctil started college, he thought he wanted to be in law enforcement. Luckily, he found his true calling at IMU.

“I got my degree in criminal justice but quickly decided that was not the path for me,” says Luke. He was working as a plumber when he had a life-altering conversation with another IMU employee.

“After starting in the water field, I realized there is great satisfaction in providing water for a whole community, and I take a lot of pride in it.” Luke shares. “Now I could never imagine doing anything else.”

Luke is a Grade 3 Water Operator and a Grade 2 Distribution Operator. His team’s job is to treat and distribute clean drinking water to the residents of Indianola. They test the quality of water frequently to ensure IMU is providing clean, potable water for the community. The whole IMU Water crew is certified with the Iowa DNR as Water Treatment and Water Distribution Operators, which requires ongoing training and field experience to maintain certifications and work up to new ones.

That’s not all, according to Luke. “We also monitor and maintain the countless miles of water mains continuously that supply water for use. We take pride in this even when we are fixing water mains in the middle of the night!”

Professionally, Luke aspires to get to grade 4 in each category, but says he sets his goals every day around ensuring that he’s doing everything possible to provide affordable, plentiful, clean drinking water for Indianola. He plans to continue to learn as much as possible about treating and distributing water in the Indianola system.

It’s ambitious, but Luke also enjoys great work-life balance on a small acreage that he jokes requires constant upkeep and projects. He also loves to hunt and fish and work on old Ford trucks.
And then there’s the really important stuff. “I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and family and friends,” says Luke. “And I spend a lot of time keeping track of two crazy dogs!”

He’s found his niche at IMU. In Luke’s words, “Everyone who works at IMU has the same goal of doing their best for Indianola. IMU has an entire team of dedicated individuals who take pride in providing quality service. We all work together in many aspects to ensure this quality service.”
