Indianola’s publicly owned utility has served the community for over a century, beginning with electric service in 1890. Municipal utilities have many distinct characteristics that benefit the community they serve. A five-member Board of Trustees, appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council, oversee the operations of IMU. Local representation and control is key to providing the citizens a voice in terms of community needs, policies, and decision-making. There have been many changes over the years in the way of industry standards, technology, and equipment, but IMU has remained your hometown utility company.
Our mission is to provide our citizens with reliable and affordable services while providing high-quality customer service and experiences. We are your neighbors and we are here to serve you.
