Meet the IMU Trustees

MIKE ROZGA
2016-present (6 Years)

Professional background
Having retired from Cemen Tech after 20 years as Regional Sales Manager, Mike brings his extensive customer service and team-building skills to the IMU board, as well as a deep connection to the Indianola community.

What Mike has learned
“I’ve learned just how complex IMU really is. We are really three very different utilities – electric, water, and fiber – all operating under the umbrella of IMU. Each utility brings its own unique challenges. Our community is very blessed to have a very dedicated local team of employees.”

Why Mike serves
“I believe in giving back to my community and I can think of few organizations that touch as many residents as often as IMU does. Indianola leaders, way back in 1890 when IMU was first started as an electric utility, could never have envisioned what it has become today. I am proud to follow in the footsteps of so many Trustees who have served over the years and an excited for the future of IMU.”

DOM SELGRADE
2022 (New)

Professional background
Dom is an Electrical Standards Engineer for the Global Microsoft Data Center team, where he has recently been tapped to write and enforce electrical standards for all Microsoft data centers worldwide. Dom brings a unique blend of technical understanding and business skills to the board.

What Dom has learned
“I am just starting the role, still in the ramp-up phase, but I have had the opportunity to tour our IMU facilities and am excited about what I have seen.”

Why Dom serves
“I am excited to help our IMU team grow, and I look forward to helping to maintain our fiscal responsibility and dedication to service for the people we serve in the Indianola community.”

LORI SMITH
2021-present (1 year)
Board Chair

Professional background
IMU’s Board Chair, Lori Smith, brings a wealth of leadership skills to her role. Retired from Principal Financial, Lori finished her tenure as AVP CIO for Corporate Technology. Her career with a Fortune 500 company immersed her in advanced business practices, project management, collaboration, communication techniques, and use of technology to enhance business processes – all skills she draws on in her work with IMU.

Why Lori serves
“I am committed to giving back to my community. In the past I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Youth Shelter Services, DMACC, and through various career functions with ISU. I look forward to being more involved with my local Indianola community through this role.”

What Lori has learned
“I have not worked in a government position previously, and I am learning there is a difference in how we work within IMU and the City of Indianola. The utility world is built around complicated components including water, electricity, and communications. Through meeting with members of the staff, I have learned we have a strong cast of individuals who make up our IMU team. Each of them is dedicated and focused on serving Indianola. This may be the most impressive part of the assignment!”

ADAM VOIGTS
2016-present (6 years)

Professional background
Adam, Lori’s immediate predecessor as the Board of Trustees Chair, is the Chief Financial Officer for Drake University. As a CFO and CPA, Adam’s expertise in leading financial operations for an institution of higher learning is valuable in his role with a multi-faceted public entity like IMU.

Why Adam serves
I view my role on the Board as serving the community that I am proud to live in. I serve because I want the City of Indianola and its residents to have the best water, electric and fiber utilities possible.

What Adam has learned
When I was new to the Board, it took a while to understand how municipal utilities operate. Now that I’ve gained this understanding, I specifically look for articles, podcasts, etc. that may be relevant to IMU, to deepen my industry knowledge and share things I learn with colleagues.

DEB WHITE
(2014-2019, 2022-present)
Vice Chair

Professional background
Deb is retired from Simpson College, where she spent her career in business and finance, with some work in accounting. She was fortunate to collaborate with a broad variety of professionals and students over the years, and she brings her ability to work across the table to the board of trustees.

Why Deb serves
“I am honored to serve the Indianola Community. As a Trustee, I try to make sure that when someone turns on the faucet, there is water; when they turn on the light, there is electricity; when they turn on the computer or TV, there is internet and programs to entertain; and when they receive their bills, there is always someone a phone call away to assist them. Honestly, it’s our great IMU staff that keep it all going. These are the people that make my job as a trustee easy!”

What Deb has learned
“I have learned that even though IMU is a separate entity from City of Indianola, it is so important that we work together. Personally, I have found that it has been beneficial for me to attend City Council meetings. It keeps me up to speed on what may be coming IMU’s way in the future, that I can pass along to our board.”

The IMU Board of Trustees meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, located at 110 N. 1st St. You can view previously recorded meetings online by visiting indianola.com/about/board-of-trustees.
