IMU’s Strategic Plan Highlights
OUR MISSION
To work cooperatively with the City to provide essential, high-quality and cost-effective electric, water and communication services.
The plan is organized around four priority areas:
1. Our Services
Maintaining and enhancing our electric, water and communications infrastructure and services is critical for serving current and future customers.
2. Our Staff
Retaining and developing IMU staff is key to maintaining the high customer service IMU is known for. As IMU looks to the future, the Utility wants to remain an employer of choice for the next workforce.
3. Our Community
Keeping IMU customers and the community informed about the organization, and the services and support IMU provides. As a municipal utility, IMU’s customer owners should be knowledgeable about its activities and performance, as well as accessing and utilizing its programs.
4. Our Organization
As a municipal “business,” IMU must remain financially viable and fiscally responsible. IMU will place a priority on ensuring that rates are set on sound fiscal policy and meet operational and capital needs.
OUR GOALS
1. Maintaining the IMU electric utility’s high reliability, and sourcing more wholesale energy from renewable sources, reducing its overall carbon footprint.
2. IMU’s water utility is proactively upgrading infrastructure to maintain high quality water and sufficient water pressure for existing and expanding connections.
3. IMU’s communication utility will prepare for increasing speed and capacity demands, explore options for an expanded service area, and grow the current customer base.
4. To ensure existing employees are retained and promoted, and are providing exceptional customer service.
5. A future employee pipeline is nurtured and encouraged.
6. IMU customers are aware of the Utility’s services,
programs and performance.
7. IMU is gaining broad renown, and its employees are sought out as experts by other utilities across the state and nation. IMU will encourage its employees to act as subject matter experts.
8. IMU remains fiscally responsible to our customer owners while maintaining a financially sustainable business.
