Contact Iowa One Call before you dig

Before you dig in your yard this summer, remember Iowa One Call. For any project - large or small - you are required by law to contact Iowa One Call at least 48 hours (two business days) prior to commencing your digging or excavation project.

It’s easy to remember a seemingly small step like this when you’re doing a major project that could include pulling permits or hiring contractors. But it’s also required to call before starting more common projects around your yard.

  • Building a patio, addition, deck, garage, barn, outdoor shed, or similar structure
  • Putting in a new driveway or sidewalk
  • Installing a septic system or water drainage system
  • Terracing or landscaping
  • Installing a septic or water drainage system
  • Planting or removing trees or shrubs
