Meet Skye McBroom
Skye McBroom is one of those people who can do anything. She’s the Swiss Army knife of IMU Fiber, the woman you call when you can’t figure out exactly how to tackle something. On her way to her current role as a Network Engineer, Skye picked up skills in graphic design, hospitality, retail, childcare, computer operations, data entry, and healthcare billing. It all comes in handy.
“I remember telling my mother at a very young age that I was going to become the first woman president,” says Skye. “But now I’m a network engineer for a telecommunications utility. Sooooooo…..”
So, indeed. Skye started with the City in 2008 as office manager in the Water Pollution Control department and an office assistant for the City Clerk. Over time, the City began taking more of its IT in-house and a part-time position opened. Skye jumped on the opportunity, because office manager to IT specialist totally made sense to her.
Fortunately, it also made sense to now-Fiber Superintendent Kurt Ripperger, who eventually brought Skye on full time as a technical support specialist. A few years later, IMU Fiber launched and Skye was promoted to Network Engineer.
Simple, right?
“Every department head needs a Skye McBroom,” says Ripperger. “No matter what we throw at her, she’s got it. Her dedication to the IMU Fiber team and our customers is a big factor in the success of our launch and the continued growth of the fiber utility.”
Being part of the “IMU Fiber Crew” means a lot to Skye. “Our team has done an exceptional job of working through the growing pains of establishing a new telecommunications utility, providing a modern, scalable system for our customers, and making it affordable to boot,” she says. “We are a dedicated bunch that take pride in the job that we do, and we all recognize that our customers are our neighbors and friends. I think that’s where we have a leg up on the competition. We see the value of being local and ensuring our customers are happy with their service.”
