Halloween Safety Tips

Halloween is a fun time for everyone, but staying safe while enjoying the festivities is important. Here are some tips to keep you and your family safe this Halloween:

DECORATIONS

  • Keep decorations away from power lines. This includes hanging lights, banners, and other decorations.
  • Use only outdoor-rated extension cords. Indoor cords are not designed for outdoor use and can pose a fire hazard.
  • Turn off lights and unplug decorations when you’re not home.

FIRE SAFETY

  • Never leave candles unattended.
  • Keep candles away from flammable materials.
  • Use battery-powered candles whenever possible.
  • Keep a safe distance: Always keep a safe distance from open flames, bonfires, and fireworks.
  • Choose flame-resistant costumes.

TRICK-OR-TREATING

  • Walk only on sidewalks: avoid shortcuts through yards or alleys.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Avoid wearing masks that obstruct your vision.
  • Wear reflective tape or use flashlights & glow sticks to help you be seen at night.
