What sparked your interest in this field?
I would say the interest in the job didn’t happen until I started and fully realized how much this job would challenge me. I was happy I found a career path that would allow me to grow within the job itself and expand my knowledge in a field I didn’t know a lot about. The idea of being the person that treats the public water supply and the responsibility that comes with it is the most rewarding part of the job.
Where did you get your education or training?
The nice thing about Water department is the ability to have hands on training and provides me the resources to study for my different water licenses. Also, the ability to take self study college courses really helped me get my water treatment grade 2 and distribution grade 2 licenses.
Why did you want to work for IMU?
The idea of a career change in the same year of having a baby was definitely a decision I didn’t take lightly. I talked to an IMU employee and they told me all the pros and cons and how great working for IMU was. One of the highlights was being close to home. While interviewing at the water department I had the opportunity to meet all the staff. I could tell it was a great group of individuals to work with.
What do you like most about your job?
The water treatment process intrigues me. Being able to see the whole process from start to finish is very interesting to me. Not very many people understand the process it takes to get the water that you use everyday. I enjoy having a hand in that. I also enjoy that I am constantly learning new things.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my wife and our 1 year old son. We are often spending time with family doing different activities from ride four wheelers to boating.
